Personal political website · Commentary, analysis and civic engagement

RikardMalmborg.se is my personal political website — a place for politics, society, opinions and the occasional attempt to introduce facts into subjects that have already become far too comfortable without them.

Unlike EslövsModeraterna.se, which represents a political organisation, RikardMalmborg.se represents only me. The opinions are mine, the choice of subjects is mine, and so is the responsibility for getting the arguments, facts and conclusions reasonably straight.

A Personal Political Platform

The site grew out of a need for somewhere between the short lifespan of social media and the formal communication of a political organisation. Some subjects simply need more than a few sentences, a photograph and an angry comment field.

RikardMalmborg.se provides that space. Articles can develop an argument, examine background material, link to original sources and — when necessary — acknowledge that reality has an annoying habit of being more complicated than the slogan.

The subjects are deliberately varied. Local government and municipal independence sit beside infrastructure, public administration, information technology, pensions, public-sector AI, taxation and fees, sustainability, security, integrity and the responsibilities that accompany political power.

Opinion, With Footnotes

It is an opinion site, not an attempt to disguise political views as neutral journalism. At the same time, an opinion becomes considerably more useful when the factual foundation beneath it can survive inspection.

Where a subject depends on legislation, official statistics, public reports, court decisions or other verifiable information, the ambition is therefore to work from those sources rather than merely repeat whatever happens to be circulating most enthusiastically at the time.

That does not remove interpretation or political judgement — nor should it. The purpose is instead to make the distinction clearer: establish what can reasonably be established as fact, identify what remains uncertain, and then argue the political position openly.

Against the Temperature of the Internet

Political discussion has no shortage of certainty, outrage or people shouting past one another. RikardMalmborg.se deliberately has room for a slower form of argument.

That includes challenging intolerance, prejudice and convenient simplifications when they appear, but also resisting the temptation to replace one set of slogans with another. Difficult political questions are rarely improved by pretending that everyone on the other side is stupid, malicious or beyond conversation.

The preferred method is considerably less exciting: examine the issue, separate assumptions from evidence, apply a little proportion and arrive at a conclusion that can still be defended after the emotional temperature has dropped.

Local Politics, Larger Questions

My political engagement is rooted in local government, but the site is not limited to municipal politics. Local decisions often lead directly into larger questions about how Sweden organises public services, infrastructure, technology, taxation, individual responsibility and the relationship between citizens and government.

That makes the site partly a political notebook and partly a public archive of arguments that would otherwise disappear into social-media timelines. Older articles remain available because political reasoning is often more interesting when it can be revisited several years later.

A Site of My Own

There is also a deliberately old-fashioned idea behind the project: important material should have a home that I control.

Social networks are useful distribution channels, but they decide how long something remains visible, how it is presented and sometimes whether it is visible at all. RikardMalmborg.se provides a permanent address for the full text, its references and its context.

The website itself has evolved along the way. It previously ran on WordPress but was migrated to Publii in January 2026. The current approach uses static site generation, keeping the publishing environment separate from the public website and leaving the published site comparatively simple.

Independent Publishing

The site is personally maintained and published, with me acting as responsible publisher. Analytics are handled through a self-hosted Matomo installation rather than handing visitor statistics to an advertising platform.

Content, presentation and technical operation are consequently parts of the same project. An article can begin as a political question, turn into several hours of reading legislation and reports, acquire an unreasonable number of footnotes, and finally end up as a static HTML page on a server.

Which, admittedly, is a rather elaborate way of having opinions on the Internet.

The Continuing Project

RikardMalmborg.se is not intended to become a news service or a daily political blog. Articles appear when there is a subject worth spending some time on and when I believe I have something useful to add.

The result is a deliberately selective collection of political and societal commentary: personal in viewpoint, restrained where possible, sourced where it matters, and always open to the possibility that a complicated question may require a more complicated answer.

It is, ultimately, the showcase of moi — politician, IT worker, occasional writer, habitual fact-checker and persistent believer that public debate can survive both disagreement and complete sentences.
