EslövsModeraterna
EslövsModeraterna.se
Political organisation website · 2013–present
EslövsModeraterna.se is the website of the local Moderate Party association in Eslöv, Sweden. I have been responsible for the website and its technical operation since its early years, making it one of my longest continuously maintained web projects.
The site has evolved through several generations rather than being replaced whenever technology or design trends changed. The objective has always been fairly simple: provide the organisation with a reliable public information platform that can be maintained over time without becoming dependent on unnecessary custom development.
From PHP-Fusion to WordPress
The original site was built using PHP-Fusion, a lightweight content management system that was well suited to community and association websites at the time. That version included functionality such as user accounts, profiles, an internal forum and a calendar.
Ahead of the 2018 election the site was rebuilt using WordPress. The change was not primarily about changing its appearance, but about moving to a more widely supported and maintainable platform with regular security updates, established extensions and better prospects for long-term administration.
One important design principle was to avoid making the site dependent on large amounts of custom code. A website operated by a voluntary organisation will eventually change hands, and its next webmaster should not need to reverse-engineer the previous administrator's personal framework before being able to update a page.

Ongoing Operation
The current website is based on WordPress with PHP and MySQL. It uses an established theme as its foundation together with selected extensions for functions such as external news feeds and integration with the association's social-media presence.
The work around the site includes considerably more than publishing articles. WordPress, themes and extensions are maintained and updated, while caching, image handling, performance, backups, security and general hosting issues are handled as part of normal operation.
Matomo is used for web analytics rather than Google Analytics. The site is hosted in Sweden and has been developed with ordinary desktop, tablet and mobile use in mind.
A Website That Has Evolved
Most changes have been evolutionary rather than complete redesigns. Navigation, typography, responsive behaviour, content structure and the presentation of political information have gradually been adjusted as the requirements of the organisation have changed.
This also means that older material remains part of the site. Election information from previous periods is retained where it still has historical or political relevance rather than automatically disappearing when a new campaign begins.
The 2026 Revision
A larger revision was carried out during 2026 in preparation for the municipal election. The work concentrated on making election-related information easier to find and creating a clearer relationship between the organisation's normal political content and material specifically related to the election.
The Val 2026 section was given a more prominent position in the navigation, candidate information and the municipal ballot were reorganised, and the local political programme for 2026–2030 was prepared for publication in smaller and more readable sections.
Menus, footer content, headings, spacing, contact information and older pages were reviewed at the same time. The visual presentation was also brought closer to the current graphical identity used by the national organisation, including adoption of Inter Display as the principal typeface.
Performance and caching remain ongoing work, particularly because parts of the site depend on information loaded from external sources. The intention has not been to rebuild a functioning site for the sake of rebuilding it, but to keep improving readability, maintainability and reliability as its role changes.
Long-Term Maintenance
EslövsModeraterna.se is therefore less a single website build than a long-running web administration project. It has passed through different publishing platforms, several elections, changing graphical profiles and more than a decade of changes in normal web technology.
The common thread has been to keep it understandable, maintainable and usable while allowing the underlying technology to change when there is a practical reason to do so.
